April to June – Investigation works in Stychbrook Park
We conducted utilities and ground mapping surveys across the park in April. The work is part of our early information gathering process designed to tell us about ground conditions underneath the surface of the park.
In June 2021 holes were dug around the park to assess soil conditions and take groundwater depth measurements. A survey also took place to assess the ecological impact of the project and identify any valuable or protected animals, plants or habitats within Stychbrook Park along with a search for any archaeological sites to help understand past uses of the land. Traffic surveys on Curborough Road and the junction with Eastern Avenue were also carried out to assist with future traffic management plans.
The information gathered from the site investigations is being used to inform initial design planning for the proposed new leisure centre and secure support for the project from organisations such as Sport England.
September 2020 – Preferred site choice
The report putting forward Stychbrook Park as the preferred site for the planned leisure centre was considered by our Leisure, Parks & Waste Management (Overview & Scrutiny) Committee on 23 September 2020. To read the report, visit the committee page on the main Lichfield District Council website.
